Intercoolers are used to safely increase horsepower by reducing the turbo inlet temperature before re-entering the engine. Boost exits the intercooler denser and at a lower temperatures based on ambient temperatures.

Intercoolers are typically found in racing cars and high performance engines commonly found within Japanese motor vehicles or in late model Turbo Diesel vehicles and so on.
